Suzuki Sidekick swing bumper

Just thought I would share some pictures of the first bumper I have built. Thanks to sites like this and the people on them for ideas and help.  ;D

Looks very nice.  Big gain in your angle of departure.  How much twist do you get in the swing arm with the weight of the fuel can and spare?  Does it bounce and make noise?

I dont get much twist at all. What happened by accident and actually works really well is when I welded the tire carrier piece on the arm I got a little too much heat into swing arm which caused the bar to bend very slightly upward. So when I close the arm I have to push down on the bar and screw the handle down. There is also a 1/2" tab with a threaded hole for the screw handle to screw into so there is very little space between the swing arm and bumper itself.  This opposite upward pressure of swing arm causes no bounce or rattling whatsoever.

That looks pretty slick. I can tell you really put some effort into the mounts. Is it 3"x1.5" rectangular tubing? Did you do anything special for the hinge?

It is 2x3" rec. tubing that I mitred and it is just a standard hinge post set-up that I got from A-Z fabrication. The mounting brackets are 1/4" angle with an opposite plate contoured and welded to the frame and bolted through with nuts welded to the back. I had to replace the rear crossmember as it had some rot starting. I may have gone overboard with beefing them brackets but didnt want to lose this bumper on a logging road. :laugh:

Warping from a liittle to much heat on one side usually works against me.  Nice job.
