Automatic transmission installation
« on: April 04, 2019, 10:21:59 PM »
I am working on getting my Samurai restored and with the work I have done now my wife is starting to take a liking to it. Great!!! the problem now is that she whats me to install an automatic transmission so that she can drive it occasionally. I found that the transmission tunnel has to be modified and there are kits available, but does anyone have picture showing the tunnel modification process? I have not figured out what engine to go with, (either 1.6, 2.0, or 2.3) any suggestions on what transmission I should use?? (TH180??) This will be a street driven Samurai with light off-roading.
Thank you for any help,

Probably the easiest thing for you would be finding a 2x4 8v Trackick with an auto.  A guy local to me builds lots of Sammy’s for resale, and that is his most popular/favorite powertrain setup to go with.
1995 Sidekick JLX
16v 5 spd, milled head, LROR Stage 2 clutch
2" Spacer lift, XL7 rear springs,  2nd Gen front springs, W-Body GM Struts on front
OEM ROOF RACK!!!
