« on: February 10, 2004, 08:36:24 AM »
Hey Guys,

Has anyone tried out the Hawk headers on their tracker/kick.

I plan on buying a header for my kick but need some advice on a choice between the Hawk and the Calmini.

I also have the Calmini header (Calmini exhaust combo) on my Sidekick .There were some difficulties during installation (has nothing to do with the header though) ,but minor ones.No other problems ,quality is very good as in all Calmini products.

I’ve been running my Calmini header + exhaust combo for the last few months and it works great.

Even after a few months of use the header looks exactly the same as the day when I pulled it out of the box.

The exhaust was a bit of a pain to install (nothing to do with the header) because you have to supply and bend some of the piping yourself, then weld it all together. But installation headaches set aside, the system performs really well and I've noticed a huge power change compared to the stock exhaust.

The only beef I have with the exhaust system is that the muffler is too quiet for my likings.  It sounds more throaty, no questions about that.  It’s just not loud enough for my tastes.  I don't want Ricer loud, just something that opens up a bit more than the calmini muffler.

I went wheeling with a guy who was driving a Sammy a few weeks ago and he was running a flow master 2"  and it sounded amazing.   So after my Calmini muffler kicks the bucket I'm gonna replace it with a flow master to achieve the sound I want.

I’ve also heard really good things about the Hawks header. The reason I went with Calmini is because I ordered my lift kit at the same time, so it was just easier.

I have the Hawk header and  have no problems. I like it alot. I also have 2" pipe all the way through w/ a catko cat and magnaflow muffler. It is really quite at idle but sounds okay when you get on in.

so both of these headers are really top notch?

is there a comparison between power/flow difference between the two out there somewhere? is the difference so miniscule it doesn't matter? which is the better deal?

One important thing to consider, are the ports "squared" to match the Zook ports?

This is important at as the purpose to headers is to increase flow and reduce turbulance in the waste gas.  All the headers, except CALMINI's, use a round ports on the flange and don't square the tubes. NO GOOD!

I'm not sure about the Hawk header, so ask.

   ZukkinMad,

I purchased the Calmini 16 valve header. I have no complaints. It was a direct replacement for the stock exhaust manifold, everything fit perfectly. This header included the tube for the EGR cross-over port, along with the threaded collar for the upstream O2 sensor. I have aproximately 30,000 miles on this header and it still looks very nice.

I have had no experience with the Hawk header, so I can offer no opinions concerning it.

I realize this thread is rather old and you have probably made a decision and acted on it. Just putting in my two cents worth for those that may read this thread.

   Sincerely,
