Back ages ago when I was in high school we had to take one shop and one home ec class. We would purchase the old frostline kits and make our own tents, sleeping bags and clothing. Then in the Navy I would spend alot of off duty time in the para-riggers shop repairing clothing, flight suits and making garment bags, overnight bags and alot of custom alterations and creating.
The more skills you have the better off you will be, though this does run counter to what todays society deems appropriate
I have always been in opposition to "society" its the only way to live, we live outside the city limits in the country, i hunt, fish, cook most everything from stratch, we grow our own vegetables and have animals on our property that we use for food supply.
Being self sufficient is the only way to live. The government was originally put in place to protect the citizens from outside threats, not supply people and dictate how to live our lives.
(Sensitive subject for me)
