Can Opener (the build)
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:14:37 PM »
after purchasing this used and abused 1990 Geo Tracker tin top I liked it then hated it and now I want to make it a little nicer. I went and bought some 31x10.5x15 tires for cheap yest er day and I have some old 10x15 wheels laying around I decided to put them under it. I am thinking of doing a combination of a body lift, spacer lift, and the ball joint lowering setup featured on MR. T to get the car sitting how I want it. and seance I didn't have much material laying around to do anything else. I started modifying the lower control arms for the first step.

Some of the people on here have probably seen the build of MR. T and know what I am talking about, but if you don't let me try and explain. Muskegtracker wanted to lift his trackick by lowering the ball joint on the lower control arms. the reason for this is to get better Clarence, better center of gravity, and if I understand this right the alignment does not have to be messed with. I thought this idea was such a good idea I couldn't pass it by, so here goes.

earlyer today I took some stock control arms off of a parts car and got started cutting. I also forgot to say some more advantages to this is you can push the front hub forward a little and make the stance a little wider too. after some carful measureing and thinking I finally figured out where I needed to cut and how I wanted it to end up. the plan is to lower the ball joint 1.5'' move it forward 1.5''-2'' and move it out 0.5'' or so.

here is more pictures of the progress. no big deal on the alinment. I might drop the front third and put some coil spacers or bigger springs. the other thing I noticed is that with the car jacked up and the tires still on the tire has a bout 1/4'' of play. I figure it is wheel bearings, but I am going to try and replace ball joints, wheel earings and what else is there that might have some wear. does anyone have any tips for replacing the wheel bearings?

I think it should be worth that, but now one wants it. so I am going to put some bigger tires on it and run it.
