1.6 block and 1.3 8v head issue

My question is what timing belt/Cam gear do I use?

I'm assembling the motor and ran into a problem. The 1.3 timing belt is to short and the 1.6 belt is to large. The gear attached to the crank is the 1.6 and the gear attached to the cam is from the 1.3.

The sprockets are different, you will need to use the cogs from the 1.6 and the
belt from a 1.6 if you build on a 1.6 block, same for a 1.3 block, use the sprockets
from the 1.3 as well as the belt

I'm not talking about accessory belts, but the timing belt. I'm not worried about the cog pulley right now... Just the timing belt and how to make it work, as my post states.

Ya, I know, I'm telling you what you need to do to get the timing belt on

I had a similar issue except I put a 1.6 head on a 1.3 block, I had to swap
over the 1.3 cam cog to the 1.6 head and use the 1.3 timing belt

I do see the differences in the timing belt between the 1.3 and 1.6 regarding the teeth. I will put the 1.6 gear cog (correct terminology?) on but its the same diameter as the 1.3. So I don't see that taking up any extra slack in the 1.6 belt.
The 1.3 is WAY to short and the 1.6 is WAY to long. Call me stupid but I just don't see putting the 1.6 cam cog on fixing any problems.

I don't know what to call it, but it's not a gear, sprocket or cog is
close enough, the formal terminology for this style of belt is Gilmore
belt, but nobody seems to know what that is when I use it  ???

If the belt you got is for a Suzuki 1.6 it will fit, unless you got a 16V
belt somehow, but those belts are wider by a good bit and you would
see the difference right away

Make sure you have the tensioner in there and the belt routed around it,
that's what is going to tighten the belt

You might have the wrong belt, post some pics if it don't work out

All pictures have 1.6 crank sprocket. And I'm a noob, if the pictures are HUGE, the preview option showed them manageable.

Is the belt wider than the sprockets? Because it looks like a 16V belt from the pics you posted
or it's just the wrong belt in the right box

Its the exact width of the gear on the crank and about 2mm narrower than the gear on the cam.

OK, the 16V belt is wider, both 8V belts are the same width,
so if the belts you have are both the same width then you
have the wrong belt, because the belt you have is way too
long and the tensioner will not take up that kind of slack

Where did the belt come from? I hope it was a local purchase
so you can get the right one easily, other wise just go to a good
parts store and get the right belt, and send the other one back
it's not going to work.

The teeth on the sprockets are different shapes, and that's why
you need to swap sprockets to run the other belt, you are right,
both sprockets are the same size, but that's not what is going on
here, you were given the wrong part

The 1.6 is much wider than the 1.3.
I ordered a rebuild kit online from ebay. And I do have a 16v head waiting for the machine shop, so maybe I made a mistake? Either way the ebay sales guy gave me the pistons and rings for free!
Ill go to the parts store tomorrow and order a 1.6 8v timing belt tomorrow. Correct?
Is the 1.6 8v timing belt the same width as the 1.3 timing belt?

OK, ya, you have a 16V timing belt, just get an 8V belt and it will fit.

When you do the 16V head you will need this belt, also the crank sprocket
on a 16V is wider like the belt is, but should work fine so long as the tooth
shape fits the belt.
