so if the belts you have are both the same width then you
have the wrong belt, because the belt you have is way too
long and the tensioner will not take up that kind of slack
Where did the belt come from? I hope it was a local purchase
so you can get the right one easily, other wise just go to a good
parts store and get the right belt, and send the other one back
it's not going to work.
The teeth on the sprockets are different shapes, and that's why
you need to swap sprockets to run the other belt, you are right,
