TOYOTA IFS here i come...
« on: September 25, 2005, 12:25:10 AM »
after reading some of the posts (particularly "toyota ifs, paging mr. hagen) i decided to swap my axles with that of toyota. i'm from philippines so the donnor here is a hilux.

my goals are to strengthen my axles, my 3rd member and to correct my final drive ratio. i already broke 4 aluminium housings and a cv so i guess its about time i do something. also with 5.83s no longer available, the hilux's 5.71s should do the trick.

i have some questions and i hope you gurus here can offer some advice. thank you guys in advance...

1. from what i gathered i will be using suzuki spindles together with the toyota axles and lockouts but the toyota lockouts doesnt quite fit into the suzuki spindle. what modifications should i do here?

2. the front assembly i got comes with automatic locking hubs. do i have to use manual locking hubs or will these do?

3. instead of hub spacers (since the axles are longer than the spindle), i might have the axles machined. are there any downside to this?

these are the questions for now. i hope to here from you guys soon. will also be posting some pics in the future. thanks.

Even if you have teh shafts machined down, you still have to deal with the issue of an adapter to bolt the hub onto the Trackick knuckle.

Talk to 37kicker, as I believe he's the guy who sold Bobzooki the spacers and various junk he neded to install Toyota CVs. Of course you're still gonna have to deal with making mounting bracketry for the Toyota diff, as his kit is just to put the shafts on a Trackick diff.

Over on the Pirate4x4.com forum there was a thread about someone swapping in the whole IFS drivetrain out of a Toy and into a Sidekick, but I can't find it right now.

Heh well let me know how it goes my plans, as soon as money allows will be swapping both axles from a 90 toy v-6 truck and using t-100 axles for added length and fabbing new a-arms and using the toy knuckels and brake components.  Was hoping to get started this winter but when you get started on it keep us informed. ;D

I would go with stock manual or  full time pucks  save the cone lock out washers . the down side is when you break you need to have another one made.  stan

toy axle mated onto the zuk hub...

there is a 4cm gap between the lockout and the hub. is it possible for someone to post a photo of the spacer?

also the toy lockout flange doesnt quite fit into the groove of the zuk spindle. is this critical? will manual lockouts solve this problem?

(toy spindle on left, escudo on right)

thanks guys...
