My lucky day. (not really) with some misc pics
« on: August 04, 2005, 09:51:12 PM »
Once upon a time, there was a kid, who one day woke up and decided he wanted to build a Killer Vit. After 2 long years, several litres of sweat, blood and tears, he was almost finished, when, a yellow Canary landed on his windscreen......

....... oh well, such is life.

i need to have a full inspection of my vit.

no rear bumper
no rear mud flaps
too high
tyres too big
too loud

and what got me pulled over was not indicating.

i guess my vits going to be off the road for a while again.  :( more work to be done. need to get a proper BL made up to pass, and i cant just take it out, cos i've done my tank lift. suspension can all go back to stock, and i need to find someone with some 235s or 31s to put on. my own fault i guess.

Bad luck dude. looks like a good rig too. We have the same issues over here in NZ - we tend to adopt the Aussie standards over here :(
Doesn't sound like you got too much work to do to get it sorted though. Keep going mate and it'll all get sorted.
Good luck and happy ;D wheeling.

yeah, it sucks big time. Aussie 4wd laws are going to sh!t. in the southern states, theres talk about no more than 6" of lift, which includes tyres, BL, and Suspension. which means, if you have a 2" body lift (which is legal) and a 4" suspension, you have to run stock wheels and tyres. or if you go to a 35" from a 29", you cant have any BL or SUS lift.

i'll move to the states one day, if not, i'd go for a tour at the least.

it doesnt sound like much work, but i think its gonna cost me a bit. getting the suspension back to stock is an arvo job, nothing serious, but its not going to happen with my 33"s on. so i gotta find some 235s first. i figure 235s are the best for inspection, as they arent too small, and not too big. if i go 31"s, i might not even be able to pass.

then i have to sort out my BL. over here, we have to use a body block of solid material, like aluminium, or steel, or the plastic stuff. this is something i will have to do, and it NEEDS to pass inspection, cos i cant lower the body back to stock anymore. what do people think of using a sqare block versus a round block. all kits in aus use either aluminium, or plastic, but its round. i can get the same plastic stuff, but square. whats better? or more so, which one attracts less attention? its all going to be black anyway, but still.

today was the second day i drove my vit after a 4 week holiday, and it sucks. i did go for a quick wheel though.

some more pics:

here is my current CV angle.

i think the rear wheel arches were only made to fit a 32" tyre max. (maybe it was suzuki's plan all along, as anything bigger that 31"s would put too much stress on the drive train)

and here a little dam thingy, maybe one day i might try to float accross it.
my vit does look a bit funny with the 33"s on. need heaps more sus lift.

ya know it sucks but when you don't keep things like bumpers and mud flaps its just looking for a ticket. I drove my fully modified toyota around here with an exocage and 37" tires and never got pulled over because I drove cautiously and had all lights, mudflaps, bumpers on it. Even though it was beat to shit and army green!!

that sucks, but you should know better then run without an exhaust and bumper.

I got pulled ove my first trip in the tracker, the tires were sticking ou past the fender and it started to rain.  My front plate was in my windshield, didnt like that either, but all I got was a warning.

See there are hundreds of accidents from unsafe vehicles every year, something they are starting to crack down on. You may call it poor bashing, but really, most of even myown  cars I had after highschool shouldnt be near a highway much less on it.

i thought someone might bring it up. its quite obvious in that pic. what do other people think? i think the chassis rail is supposed to be like that. its the same on the other side.

makes you wonder sometimes.

The frame rails are  like that, dont worry   ;)

What is the tyre size in the following photo ?

I m thinking of putting 33's  and I m trying to figure out how much trimming work needs to be done.I dont have a problem to the front axle as it has been moved forward 2".Trying to avoid a body lift as my truck is already much lifted (frame rails are 17" from ground with 31's...)

Hi GRVIT, the tyres i was running in that pic are the goodyear MT/R 31"x10.5"x15".

with my IFS and 3"+3" lift, the 31"s would not rub anywhere on the chassis or body at all. i think i should stick to a 31" or 32". a 33" might be a bit big with-out an SAS, or beefed up drive train and suspension. i'll give it a go and see if i can work the 33"s into the vit, but it may take a while for me.

cheers

I fitted 33"s on mine, Most problems occur in the front, I just had to cut of a little of the rear fenders in the front (just behind the doors) Just the lip was enough. I also had to cut off a piece of the exhaust because the tire  was hitting it. That was about all I did but I believe it still rubs a little. Will take some flex shots to see asap  ;)
