Engine Carnage Pics, Now With Bottom End Damage
« on: July 09, 2005, 05:09:26 PM »
Well I tore the head off today and
have some pics of the carnage

The hole starts

Worms thru to the ring land

worked around to the front

The piston was hitting the head

#1 piston is in a lower position compaired to the others

I might not have a broken crank after all
just a bad rod, will know on Monday when I pull
the bottom end apart

Ok The bottom end is apart

Looks different somehow

The block is OK

that is the type af carnage that can happen to engines that are designed to run turbochargers not to mension ones that are not ;D, but those are the chances some people are willing to take  ;)
way to go wild  :o someone has to test these engines and see what they will do ;D
will be waiting for the reports

Well if you consider the piston have 275,000
miles on them, and they are the stock cast
ones, I think they did quite well. about 25K
miles have been turbocharged

Next ones will be forged turbo pistons,
and should hold up even better, more
power too

 Wild,
Love the pics of the bottom end, remember the chat we had about turbo's and boost pressure? just yankin yer chain ;D, 275 and turbo is unheard of around here, usually find turbo anything with 275 on it at the pic & pull.
You got my PM on the glass parts?

We should have a contest for the best carnage pics
Man I gotta find the ones from the 1.3L/8v that blew at 95oorpm.

Did the crank make it? Or she be toast?

Hate to see the damage.

Well I know ZukieMike lost the whole motor, that's some
serious carnage, I just have the most unique rod shape  ;)

As far as the crank goes, I don't think there is enough
left to turn it out, but I could get it welded and returned.

I'm thinking now about getting this crank stroked about
4-5mm more, cost about $200 I think $20 per journal to
grind and $25 to weld/per

Then I just need a set of over bore pistons, go as big as
I can or take it out 2 mm over stock with some oversize
pistons and I'll get 1751-1770cc  ....hmmm  that ought to
add a little to the power, but I'mm not going to turbo this
one, Turbo is going into a 16V this time

;D  Well if I could find Ethanol or Methanol
at a regular fuelling station, I would go the
Alcohol route, I might be tempted to turbo
this engine, but it would require a special set
of Con Rods, which I don't think I want to spend
the $$ on, with the longer stroke I need to mill the
tops of the pistons, and that means higher compression
so this isn't going to be a Turbo motor, it will however
get a little testing and probably be for sale after it
all checks out OK
