Got my Samurai for Christmas as a gift from my grandparents. Drove it down from Utah to Arizona. Before I got it, it had been sitting in a field for quite sometime and it needed some work. So my Grandpa put in 2500 to rebuild the entire engine, reupholstered the entire cab (seats, floor, door panels), put in a radio and got a new antenna.

When I drove up to Utah to pick up the Sami I found out that being 6 foot 6 inches does have its disadvantages sometimes. So I had to make a new seat bracket for the drivers seat to move it back a couple of inches. That way I can now comfortably drive, steer, shift, and actually press the gas, brake, and clutch pedals without getting in a wreck. I will put up some before and after pics soon.

We never did get those pictures. 

Hahah ya i was gonna do 'em this weekend but... the sami just broke... don't have 4th gear any more.... won't go into it. if anyone has any suggestions as to what this could be or if they have had this happen to them and they know how to fix it plz let me know....

The other 4 gears are fine though?

ya its weird first second and third all go in perfectly fine and i haven't tried 5th though but my mechanic says its a clutch and pressure plate and i think that the bolt on the transmission shifter is sheered so i have to look at that though and see. hopefully getting the parts tomorrow

If the shifter bolt is sheared the shifter will be sloppy but still go into gear.  Unless the bolt fell down and is wedged in there.

Does it just not work or does it not want to engage?

idk its being really weird now. I went to go pick it up and drive it home and it all of a sudden wanted to go into 4th gear so i don't know.  but near the end of the trip it started grinding when i tried to put it in gear so hopefully its just the clutch

Does it shift smoothly into gear when the engine is off?

yup it shifts perfectly fine into gear when the car is off

Well, either your syncro's are completely shot or your right on the money with the clutch.  Luckily with the divorced transfer case the transmission is pretty easy to pull out. 

ya i had my neighbor pull out my tranny and replace the clutch for me.... well i soon found out while having to move it into my garage, because it was gonna rain, that the shifter now is insanely sloppy... i think it is the bolt this time but not sure. if it is the bolt what are the characteristics of it..... oh and where is the bolt located i am not sure where it is i pulled off the first boot and halfway pulled off the second boot.. but is the bolt underneath those or is it further down? if you could send me a pic of where it is at and directions of how to get at it i would be very appreciated....

When putting things back together you may have misplaced the bushing.  On my brothers Samurai we did the sloppy shifter fix from Hawk Suzuki, it's worked great for a few years until it was sold

Security Box.... my grandpa installed this and bolted it to the floor board...

Cobra CB Radio..... Still no antenna connected.... It is bolted onto my security box in the back easily accessible.

Middle of Seats..... That little metal thing right in between the shifter is my holder for the CB Mic...
