Nice mod. Watcha gonna do for a skidplate for it?
I haven't done a skidplate for mine yet and sometimes I worry.

did you do the mod ??? .  Make the oem skidplate stronger ;D

Factory fuel skidplate is no better than an empty pop can

I wanted to do that mod ,but when the fuel pump (which is in the tank) died on the trail one day,my mechanic managed to fix it very fast.I dont know if its easy to do that with the raised gas tank mod.So I decided not to do it. Just a thought.....

Having that extra 3-4" on top of the tank makes it nice to work on the fuel sending stuff. ;D

A bodylift is nice for working on things like Tranny/gas tank But its nice to tuck the tank out of the way.
I've hit my Tank skidplate b-4 so I decided to raise it. Now its back in a stock like position. Really close to the floor and it was a tight fit.
But its so-so safe, Gotta build a skideplate for it soon.

You could do what others have done in another vehicle. The late model Bronco has 1+" of space between the top of the tank. The tank is held in with straps on top and a thin metal plate on the bottom. So any additional spacing added through a body lift, they choose to just add a 'service door' in the floor above the fuel sending unit. They just cut out a piece, added a flange to is, then screwed it on. They used some type of rolled filler to keep the exhaust and such from entering through it.

Although I don't do a lot of rock crawling (yet :D ) I have bashed my stock skidplate around lots, and yet it still holds strong. When I do my body lift, how do I do a tank raise, as it sounds like a good idea! Pics would be nice... I want to raise mine without too much effort though! If it involves welding, I might be out to lunch. Gas tanks and intense fire don't mix well with me if you know what I mean ;)

Just make sure your fuel tank is WAY out of the way or you WILL have a HOTROD ;D

Maybe you should practice your fire fighting
techniques first, then work on the welding  ;)


For what it's worth, my factory tank skid plate is
on the thinner side, but has held up well to the
impacts it has gotten, I for one don't see the point
to a gas tank lift, I hit the bar that's across the back
before I ever would hit the tank, and If I see a boulder
that is gas tank sized  ;)  I get off to the side a little.

I'm thinking about a 4 door tank too, and it might not
fit into a lifted location. I too have 4" over the top of the
tank, and think that this room would be better used for
extra fuel than a lift for a tank that has yet to get hit

i have done the gas tank lift too, mine is just my own idea though.  it lifted about a foot and a half right up to were the back seat was. ;D  talk about ground clearance!  i even had to build a custom hitch that tucks up out of the way.  lets just say my tracker will never be a daily driver, at least i hope not. ;D

I raised mine when I put the body lift on.  I also made a custom class III hitch for it.

I haven't hit the tank yet but I've hit the hitch a bunch of times and its well above stock location.
