87 sammy lug pattern??
« on: December 17, 2004, 10:25:14 AM »
Hey everyone!! Im trying to figure out the lug pattern on my 87 sammy. Im looking into wheels and tires for it and need to know the pattern. Also will a 235/75/15 mud tire fit on my sammy that has stock suspension?? It doesnt have a body lift either. Im just looking to put some decent off road tires on it until I can get a lift kit on it. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

By the way...you guys have some kickass rigs!! Hopefully mine will be that way sometime soon!!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Here's the interchange I figured during my hunt ...

5 on 5.5" bolt pattern interchange
46-86 Jeep CJ'S
85-01 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD
80-01 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD
02-04 Dodge Ram 1500 (New Body) 2/4WD
49-96 Ford 1/2 ton Pickups 2/4WD
66-96 Ford Full Size Bronco
86-94 Suzuki Samurai
89-98 Suzuki Sidekick
50-80 1/2 ton Scout I or II

lugnuts
12X1.25 for Suzuki vehicles
1/2 all others

(happy hunting ....)

5 on 5 1/2" lug spacing and the tires will fit but rub a bit until you can get a bit of a lift. then you'll find you need gears to really wheel.

Thanks

That list seems complete, but 2WD Ford 1/2 ton pickups have a smaller center hole than a Tracker (and I assume a Samurai as well) needs. Or at least my F100 did. However, the bolt pattern is the same, so all you'd need is a grinder and cutting torch to make 2WD wheels work :)

thanks for the replys!! im just planning on buying some basic steel wheels (the black ones). do you think they should be 15x7 or 15x8 with 235/75 15 tires. im not gonna be doin any crazy wheeling...just playing in the mud and cruisin fire roads up in the hills for now. i just want some better traction in mud and snow and a different look for my sammy. i just bought the thing and the previous owner used it as a commuter so its got car tires on it and some UGLY half chrome wheels. what would be a good way to get a little extra lift without spending an arm and a leg for a full blown lift kit? thanks for the help everyone!!

that size ... you'll want 15x7 (which aren't as common).

My 15x8's came from a "ford" dunno if it was an f100 (or 2wd or 4wd). fit up fine for me. at $10 for all 4 I figured it was easy to at least try em :)

Calmini shackle reversal!

The BEST change I made to my old Sami.  It will give you 2 " of lift also.

I think most older fullsize fords came with 15x8's... I know that my Bronco did (my F100 had 15x6 or something like that ???)

Actually 80's full size fords and Broncos came with 15x7" stock. Any that you find that are 15x8" are aftermarket. This I found out looking for a 5th 15x8 wagon wheel for a spare...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Could be that my Bronc's wheels weren't stock... the tires weren't stock size :-/

I have 235X75-15s on my tracker with alloy wheels that are 7".  My good friend in the tire biz says 235s can go on about any rim from the standard 5.5 on up to 8 with no trouble even if the manufacturers warn otherwise.  I have had no problem with the 7" rims and even had them on 6" rims with no problems.   Just need to make sure the rims will not rub the inside of the wheel well.  Have to try them to be sure.

To snowfalls:  do you know if the CJ rims in 7 or 8 have the correct backspace to fit larger tires into the well on a 2" lifted tracker?  I was thinking of going up to 31" tires.  But I have to order them so I cant test them first before buying them.

my 15x8's had about 3.75" backspace.  that seems common for aftermarket 15x8's.

I'd bet money that *just* a 2" BL will not fit 31's (even 30's might hit the top of the well in the rear).

It also seems to be a crap shoot. Some clear 31's no problem with 2" BL and some spacers. For my truck a 3" BL plus the spacers *still* woulda needed some trimming for the 31's I got. (not as much, but some).

Duh yea ... I guess I knew that. I was hunting for 15x8, and that's the common *aftermarket* rim. Really never looked for factory rims ...
