My new cold air intake....
« on: June 04, 2006, 02:57:25 PM »
........so I didn't like the current setup i had,  the filter sat right over the header and drew in hot engine compartment air which is bad for performance and the filter was going to suck in water in deep water crossings.....

........so i been thinking for awhile how to get the cone filter outside for cold air but close as possible because the longer straw (hose) you suck through the harder it is...

so i got out the trusty ole sawzall and made me a side hole like this:

...then I routed the air hose this a way:
(if you notice, you see I put the stock heat shield back on top of my DT header also)

...and here you go, a partially recessed outside cone filter, i just need to extend the rain guard back a inch or three now... and it will rotate up for snorkel use...

well to me its what ever gives me a higher power-to-weight ratio looks better  ;D ...and sucking in hot air is not the way to go..

As to rain,  the inside of the wheelwell is sealed and once I extend the shield back about 3" it will be fine in the rain, and i have front fender flairs so no puddle splash either... 8)

i like it way to go on the new idea ;) only down side might be when in "snorkel" position it might be pushed back if it were to come in to contact with something. you might try to incorporate a support rod that would brace it. anyway good job!

Well, it certainly looks cool.  :)

I would worry about ripping that entire setup off on a tree though.  Then again, I tend to have a lot of wear marks on the side of my roll cage.  ;D

Yeah I'll have to watch that but since my X still has a shine i don't rub stuff if I can help it, and it sticks out about the same as my mirror and fender flares...plus being on the drivers side i can watch out for it...

That was my original cold air intake inlet (it used to face fwd) but it was too low for water crossings..

Ok, just curious if it was a gauge or something since I didn't see anything under hood that it would connect to.

Clean install though. :D
