Tinkering with the sammi, 8V swap questions
« on: March 03, 2005, 11:54:22 AM »
Well, I had some time tonight and the Tracker for once didn't need anything done to it right now, so I started messing with the seized sammi.

I pulled the plugs and shot some PB Blaster into the cylinders, then managed to break the crank free with a wrench on the crank pulley bolt. I made sure I had it free for a couple revolutions, then strapped in a new battery and tried the key. Mind you I bought this thing seized and had never heard it run. It turned over a few times, but wouldn't fire(yes, I had the plugs back in and wires hooked up the way they came off, LOL!). I tried again and hit the accelerator pedal a couple times and it tried to fire. It would stay like that, just on the edge of firing, but wouldn't catch without the starter... Then a clunk and it was stuck again, like it was seized up again, but when trying the key, I could feel the clunk in the gearshift. The smell of gas was in the air(coming from the exhaust) and a puddle of oil appeared and looks to have come from the area of the dust cover at the front of the tranny. My diagnosis? Dead, time to find a new engine! LOL!

If I swap in a 1.6L 8V tracker engine, will the 93 sammi's computer and harness run it, or do I need the computer and harness from the donor vehicle? I have seen that 8V swaps are supposed to be the easiest over the 16V swap, but I haven't been able to find out just how much of the donor vehicle I need... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lawdog, still have that engine and header? LOL!!!
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

the tracker motor will work .just take the intake off the sammy and put it on the track motor. you will need a adapter plate for the swap though

So I just need a Tracker 8V engine running my EFI sammi's intake, computer and harness, mounted up with an adapter plate, right? If that's it, that's not too hard...

Oh, 8v...  When I first read the subject line, I thought V8...

One I'd like to see in a Zuk is a 61thru 63 Buick 215 cubic inch aluminum block V8.  If there are any left around...

...never mind...
